Llanfechain Show Cheese and Wine Evening May 16th

A packed hall listened attentively to a talk, illustrated by photographs, by Christine Ffoulkes Jones, about the experiences that she and her husband Nick had had when exhibiting at the Chelsea Flower Show. She explained the whole process, from the submission for a plot a year before the Show, doing the design and building whatever could be done in advance at the nursery, growing the plants, which for them meant being in season and not forcing or holding back plants to show out of season, to the transportation of everything to Chelsea, and building the exhibit. She described the pressure of the timescales, and then the excitement and anticipation of the judging, followed by the pride when they received a Gold Medal. Although not exhibiting this year they are providing plants for some of the exhibitors and will be exhibiting again themselves in 2010 in association with the charity “Riding for the Disabled”. Christine stated that the plants grown for Chelsea were from the same plants that were available to the public from their nursery, Hall Farm Nursery, nearby in Kinnerley.
At the end Christine answered questions from the floor and finally was thanked by Llanfechain Show Chairman Tony Birch for her presentation.

The evening raised £350 for Show funds so thanks to all who contributed to make it such a success
